Intercontinental Milwaukee Honored with ‘Stars of the Industry’ Award from American Hotel & Lodging Association

MILWAUKEE – April 4, 2014 – InterContinental® Milwaukee, which is owned and managed by Marcus® Hotels & Resorts, has been honored with a national ‘Stars of the Industry’ award from American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA) in the category of guest relations for a medium property. The awards program recognizes lodging employees and properties that best symbolize the quality service of the industry.

The award in the guest relations category is given for programs that develop a climate conducive to new or repeat business, create goodwill among guests, or provide special services. InterContinental Milwaukee won for its Pink Room initiative.

“The Pink Room is a project that has united our staff, given back to our community, and brought awareness to a great cause,” said Tim Smith, general manager of InterContinental Milwaukee. “We are honored to have been recognized with this prestigious award, and look forward to continuing the program for years to come.”

When guests stay in one of InterContinental Milwaukee’s two Pink Rooms, a portion of the proceeds from each stay is donated to ABCD: After Breast Cancer Diagnosis, a Milwaukee-based organization whose mission is to provide free, personalized information and one-to-one support to people affected by breast cancer—patients, families and friends.

Upon entering the Pink Room, guests are greeted by an abundance of pink—from the comforter to the commissioned artwork. There’s a laptop on the desk that opens up to the Pink Room blog, pinkroomstories.com, where guests can read previous guests’ survival stories, learn about breast cancer events in the area, and more. Since the Pink Room opened in 2009, it has raised more than $40,000 in donations for ABCD.
