Madison, Wis., March 16, 2015. . . . .The Hilton Madison Monona Terrace hotel, owned and managed by Milwaukee-based Marcus Hotels & Resorts, is celebrating the one-year anniversary of its Carbone Ribbon Room – a special guest room designed to generate awareness of cancer, raise funds, and offer support for those affected by cancer.  At a special ceremony March 5, 2015, Skip Harless, general manager of the Hilton Madison, presented a check of $7,375 to the University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center (UWCCC).  Over the past year, a portion of the proceeds from each stay in the room has been donated to UWCCC, the only comprehensive cancer center in Wisconsin whose mission is to prevent, detect, diagnose and treat cancer.

The Carbone Ribbon Room originated from the initiative of a team of Hilton Madison associates.  The Hilton Madison reconfigured and redesigned one of the hotel’s premium lakeview rooms to offer a bright and inspirational environment. The Carbone Ribbon Room features a journal to share personal stories, a compilation of sentimental narratives, and many more local, unique elements.  The artwork in the room is commissioned by local Madison artist and resident, Angelina Paoli.  Paoli is a cancer survivor herself.  The Carbone Ribbon Room logo represents multiple cancer awareness ribbons, and the bow shape represents the gift committed towards funding cancer research through the Carbone Ribbon Room project.

“The Carbone Ribbon Room project has allowed us to create a community of support for people affected by all forms of cancer – patients, families and friends.  Guests can share their stories in the room’s journal, ask for prayers, and offer a sense of hope. Guests have responded that the Carbone Ribbon Room is very encouraging and uplifting and we are excited to celebrate our one year anniversary of this special room,” said Kyra Popp, sales manager at the Hilton Madison, who assisted in the inspiration behind the Carbone Ribbon Room.

“We are honored to have Hilton Madison as a partner with the UW Carbone Cancer Center. Knowing that the community can join us in our shared fight against cancer by simply booking a night in their Carbone Ribbon Room is contributing tremendously towards advancing the needed innovative cancer research,” said Howard Bailey, director of UWCCC.

Since the room’s unveiling in February 2014, more than 200 guests have stayed the night in the special guest room.

“Over the past year the Carbone Ribbon Room has made a difference to many of our guests and employees, and has served as a symbol of hope and encouragement,” said Skip Harless, general manager.  “We look forward to continuing our partnership with the UWCCC and supporting cancer awareness and research.”
