Mason Street Grill unveils new Summer Menu and Handcrafted Cocktails

MSG

MILWAUKEE – July 28, 2016 – Mason Street Grill, part of the Marcus® Restaurants Group, has unveiled its summer menu focusing on simple, seasonal and light dishes and gluten-free options. The restaurant also introduced a new and fresh handcrafted cocktail menu featuring both “mocktails” and the “Pickleback.”

“Guests are already enjoying our summer menu selections featuring many fresh seafood appetizers, entrees and sandwiches, as well as salads using garden-fresh vegetables, cheeses and meats to make for a light and simple dish. Many of our popular classics, including wood-grilled burgers and steaks, clam strips, our signature chopped salad and seared ahi tuna, remain on the menu,” said Steve Mackey, assistant general manager at Mason Street Grill.

“A few of our dishes are prepared with Lakefront Brewery’s Mason Street Grill lager, also featured on tap at the restaurant. Cooking with beer can transform the character of the dish by adding complexity and depth to the flavor. Light and dark beers have distinct flavors and aromas that pair perfectly with the right dish,” added Mackey.

Other summer creations include a house-made bacon pepper jam paired with the scallop entrée and grilled salmon salad, as well as Kimchi, a fermented Korean cabbage used in the vinaigrette on the teriyaki glazed salmon. Mason Street Grill’s wood-fired oven is integral to imparting flavor in steaks, flatbreads and seasonal fruits. “Our wood-fired oven is stoked with oak and fruit woods, which have a less pungent flavor. The fruit in many of our seasonal dishes is also roasted in the oven to expose the aroma of the ingredients and instill flavor in every bite,” added Mackey.

Almost any dish on the summer menu can be prepared gluten free.

Featured Summer Menu Highlights
Guests can enjoy a variety of new summer menu additions, infusing clean and simple flavors perfect for a hot summer day or evening. Highlights include:

Lobster Cocktail – This popular favorite has returned for the summer months, featuring fresh Maine lobster, jalapeno, lime, pink peppercorns and avocado.
Lobster Roll – This delicious, fresh sandwich is a featured lunch menu item pairing Maine lobster and tarragon on a toasted bun “New England Style.”
Mini Lobster Rolls – For those interested in just a bite, mini lobster rolls are available as an appetizer, including all the same flavors as the Lobster Roll.
Mason Street Lager Teriyaki Glazed Salmon – Prepared with beer from Lakefront Brewery, this seasonal dish encompasses many summer flavors including roasted cauliflower, carrots, radish, fresh herbs and Kimchi vinaigrette topped with a teriyaki glaze.
Pan Seared Sea Scallops – Scallops are prepared with pea tendrils, roasted mushrooms and a bacon-cider jam, served over creamy polenta.
Grilled Salmon Salad – Tastes like a BLT combining watercress, radicchio, arugula, heirloom tomatoes and bacon pepper jam tossed with the Mason Street Grill house dressing.
Sautéed Rainbow Trout – Fish is pan-seared, butterflied and served over sautéed spinach with preserved lemon, capers and a brown butter sauce.
Fruit and Spinach Salad – A popular summer dish featuring fresh seasonal fruit, toasted almonds, goat cheese and prosciutto served with a poppy-seed vinaigrette.
Steaks & Chops – Guests can enjoy a variety of steaks on the summer menu, including a new 12-ounce filet. Provided by Meats by Linz, all meat is 100% black angus beef grain or grass fed, prepared in olive oil and finished with a brown butter. All steaks can be prepared gluten free.

Mason Street Grill, known for its happy hour, is keeping many of its popular classics on the menu while adding new items such as the Banh Minis, adapting to Midwest tastes by using a beef brisket in a beer barbecue sauce complemented by pickled cucumber, Daikon radish, carrot, sriracha mayo and cilantro. Happy hour offerings include the pub burger, lobster deviled eggs, wood-fired margherita flatbreads, steak forks, lobster roll minis, fried surf clams and the popular Mason Street Grill signature chopped salad.

“And we can’t forget about dessert. One of my favorite new desserts on the summer menu is the olive oil cake paired with seasonal fresh fruit that is roasted in our wood-fired oven, topped with honey thyme and whipped cream. The olive oil cake is a healthier food option that gives the guest something seasonal and fun. Traditional favorites such as the carrot cake and flourless chocolate cake remain on the menu. Perfect for July and August, we have prepared house-made ice cream and fresh fruit sorbet in a variety of flavors,” added Mackey.

Handcrafted Cocktails
Nothing says summer like a Pimm’s & fruit, blackberry mojito, cucumber cocktail or key lime pie martini. Mason Street Grill, Milwaukee’s #1 happy hour spot, is offering refreshing handcrafted cocktails and martinis incorporating fresh fruits, soothing juices and herbs for the perfect drink on a summer day.

“Our summer cocktail menu offers a little something for everyone, from zesty martinis and muddled fresh fruit cocktails to an extensive red and white wine list and draft and bottled beer selections. We are also offering three non-alcoholic ‘mocktails’ this summer that are sure to delight guests. These include the Lemon Thyme Squeeze, Strawberry Mint Splash and Cucumber Ginger Crush – perfect to enjoy any time of the day,” said Mackey.

Featured summer handcrafted cocktails include:

Take the #PicklebackChallenge
The term “Pickleback” was coined in 2006 by a Brooklyn bartender after a woman guest asked the barman to do a whiskey shot followed by pickle brine. The bartender fell in love with the shot and dubbed it the pickleback.

Guests can experience the Pickleback craze now at Mason Street Grill. The east coast tradition features a shot of Jameson Whiskey with a chaser of Mason Street Grill’s house-made pickle brine. The brine works to neutralize both the taste of the whiskey and the burn of the alcohol. Mason Street Grill encourages visitors to do the #PicklebackChallenge by filming and sharing their friends (or themselves!) trying a Pickleback for the first time!
