The Midwest’s Premier Winter Obstacle Race Takes Over Grand Geneva Resort & Spa
The Abominable Snow Race invites winter warriors to conquer more than four miles of snow and 20 obstacles on January 28, 2017 LAKE GENEVA, Wis. (Nov. 14, 2016) – Channel your inner Yeti and conquer the Midwest’s premier winter obstacle race, The Abominable Snow Race, on January 28, 2017. This adventure race challenges participants with more than four miles of snowy terrain, 20 obstacles, and abominable weather. This year, The Mountain Top at Grand Geneva Resort & Spa, owned and managed by Marcus Hotels & Resorts, will provide the hilly terrain and blizzard conditions needed for a fun winter event. “This is the first time The Abominable Snow Race has been held in Wisconsin and Grand Geneva Resort & Spa is an ideal location for the event,” said Bill Wolfe, race director at ASR Events, LLC. “Competitors travel from all around the Midwest for this unique winter race. We can’t wait to show off new obstacles and provide an exceptional adventure race experience for those tough enough to take on the course.” The AAA Four Diamond resort is southeastern Wisconsin’s premier family ski destination and home to The Mountain Top, a 30-acre winter wonderland that will transform into this exciting winter challenge. The race will total approximately 4.4 snowy miles, taking full advantage of the slopes on The Mountain Top ski hill. The race features more than 20 obstacles, one of which is “The Blizzard” that utilizes snow machines to create a blizzard-like experience as participants race 300 feet up and down the ski hill. Another obstacle, “The Avalanche,” adds some extra speed by having competitors tube down the ski hill, race back to the top, and slide down once more before continuing on. After the race, The Mountain Top’s lodge, Leinenkugels, will be transformed into the Yeti’s Lodge where participants are encouraged to celebrate their victory, refuel with gourmet food and a craft brew from Geneva Lake Brewing, warm up by the fire pit, and enjoy games and live music from FUTURE STUFF, a Chicago-area poppy-folk duo and winner of last year’s Abominable of the Band Competition. Competitors can choose from three race categories: Elite Heat for racers 17 and older, Hero’s Heat for police, fire, first responders and military, or Open Heats for racers 12 and older. All winter warriors will receive a Yeti Nation t-shirt, abominable beanie, finisher’s medal, and a free craft brew (age 21 and older) or hot chocolate. Parents aren’t the only ones that like to play in the snow. Kids ages 4 to 11 can take on the Lil-Yeti course featuring more than eight Lil-Yeti-sized obstacles and unlimited laps for 25 minutes. All kids that conquer the course will receive a Lil-Yeti finisher’s t-shirt, medal, hot chocolate, and, of course, a champion picture with the yeti. “The Abominable Snow Race is such an exciting event in the Midwest and we’re thrilled to be the host this year,” said Grand Geneva’s Director of Ski, Chad Hart. “It’s a fantastic way for The Mountain Top guests to participate in a brand new winter adventure, and even better, for Abominable Snow Race fans to visit the property for some competitive fun.” Additional details on the event can be found below: For more information and registration details, visit www.abominablesnowrace.com or www.grandgeneva.com. ### About Grand Geneva Resort & Spa About Marcus Hotels & Resorts About ASR Events, LLC |
