Marcus Hotels & Resorts Receives Three Horizon Interactive Awards in 2014 Competition; Wins Best Restaurant Website in Internet Advertising Competition
Heidel House Resort & Spa website and Pfister Augmented Reality app recognized in prestigious annual interactive media awards; Marcus Restaurants wins Best Restaurant Website in IAC awards
Milwaukee, Wis., April 22, 2015. . . . . Marcus® Hotels & Resorts, a division of The Marcus Corporation (NYSE: MCS), today announced that its technology team won three web design awards from the Horizon Interactive Awards, a leading international interactive media awards competition that recognizes the year’s “best of the best” in interactive media production. Marcus Hotels & Resorts also won Best Restaurant Website for its Marcus Restaurant Group site in the Internet Advertising Competition.
The Heidel House Resort & Spa website, http://www.heidelhouse.com, won a gold award in the responsive/mobile design category and a silver award in the travel & tourism category. After assuming management of the 190-room resort in Green Lake, Wis. in March 2014, Marcus Hotels & Resorts almost immediately began work on a new responsive website to showcase the stunning images the lakefront property offers. The marketing team laid out the business priorities and goals of the website, while the technology team worked on crafting a new responsive design and implementing a strong SEO strategy. Within three months of the new site’s launch there was a 330% increase in website visitors from the Chicago market alone, and mobile users were actively engaging in the new site as evidenced by a 1,700% increase in mobile visits.
The Pfister Hotel Augmented Reality Art Tour, http://www.thepfisterhotel.com/art-tour, won a gold award in the mobile app category. Marcus Hotels & Resorts is one of the first hotel management companies in the U.S. to launch an augmented reality tour at its flagship property, The Pfister Hotel in Milwaukee, Wis. Housing the largest collection of Victorian art of any hotel in the world, the Pfister Hotel now has an augmented reality tour to provide a self-guided, digital, full motion experience of 12 pieces in the art collection, featuring games, videos and other graphics. The Marcus Hotels technology team created the new mobile technology and built a seamless experience for mobile and tablet users, as well as wearable devices. The app has received local and national media attention and there are plans to augment more of the art collection in the future. The app is free and available for download at: http://www.thepfisterhotel.com/art-tour.
“Our corporate marketing and technology teams are focused on development projects that empower and engage our customers before and during travel,” said Christine Beuchert, senior director, marketing and ecommerce strategy for Marcus Hotels & Resorts. “These awards recognize our company’s creative talent and outstanding work in providing an exceptional digital user experience for our customers.”
Marcus Hotels & Resorts was also a winner in the Internet Advertising Competition Awards for its Marcus Restaurant Group website, www.marcusrestaurants.com, for Best Restaurant Website. The IAC Awards provide an opportunity to highlight the best online advertising in 96 industries and nine online formats including online ad, video, mobile, newsletter, email and social media. The Marcus Restaurant Group website award was based on the following criteria: creativity, innovation, impact, design, copywriting, use of the median and memorability.
“These interactive digital awards are a testament not only to the exceptional design work our team is capable of, but the sound coding and optimization strategy behind each project. These awards recognize not only the sites that look good on the surface, but also the sites that are built soundly and adhere to industry standards and best practices,” said Jessica McCoy Howsam, digital project manager for Marcus Hotels’ design and development team.

Experience a Weekend of Wisconsin Craft Beer in Green Lake
Get away to Heidel House Resort & Spa for a weekend of everything beer: A Homebrew How-To, Brew Fest and Beer-Themed Spa Services. Green Lake, Wis. – Feb. 10, 2015 – Heidel House Resort & Spa’s annual brew event has grown to an entire weekend celebrating Wisconsin beer. Microbrew enthusiasts will not only enjoy the popular Brew Fest craft beer tasting on Saturday, March 28, but also a newly-added Homebrew How-To event scheduled to take place Friday, March 27. To complete their beer vacation, guests are invited to try a beer-themed bath or pedicure at the hotel’s Evensong Spa.
Homebrew How-To After a long work week, the Homebrew How-To is the perfect way to kick off a well-deserved weekend away. From 7 to 10 p.m., the Society of Oshkosh Brewers will provide an interactive introduction to the art of home-brewing. Since its establishment in 1991, this group has gathered once per month to drink its members’ homebrew, swap recipes and techniques, talk beer and have fun. Now, it is one of the largest home-brewing clubs in the Midwest. During Homebrew How-To, the Society of Oshkosh Brewers will share its knowledge by presenting a step-by-step, hands-on demonstration of home-brewing. In this workshop, guests will be able to sample finished products and learn the art of beer tasting. Admission to the Homebrew How-To event is $20 per person, but the admission fee is waived with Friday and Saturday night hotel room reservations and the purchase of a Brew Fest ticket. To reserve your place, please call 800.444.2812.
Heidel House Brew Fest Brew Fest is Heidel House Resort’s annual craft beer tasting event, featuring over 100 different Wisconsin microbrews for guests to enjoy. Mingle with representatives from the state’s finest microbreweries and taste their new and most beloved flavors in a souvenir tasting glass. All breweries in attendance will offer four different beers that will compete for the title of the 2015 People’s Choice. Each attendee will have the opportunity to cast a vote for his or her favorite beer and the winning beer will be placed on tap at Heidel House Resort for the summer season. New this year will be Pigeon River Brewing Co. of Marion, Wis., and Badger State Brewing Co. of Green Bay, Wis. A few of the returning favorites are Sand Creek Brewing Co. of Black River Falls, Wis., O’so Brewing Co. of Plover, Wis. and Lakefront Brewery of Milwaukee, Wis. In addition to the microbrews, Vines & Rushes Winery of Ripon, Wis., will offer tastings of its local wines from Wisconsin-grown grapes. Ciderboys Cider Co. of Stevens Point, Wis., will also offer a sweeter alternative to beer with its refreshing hard ciders featuring hints of apple, strawberry, raspberry and peach. The $35 Brew Fest ticket includes a souvenir tasting glass, appetizers, live entertainment from Dan Braaksma Band and unlimited sampling from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. Brew Fest 2015 will take place throughout Heidel House Resort’s lake view Dartford Ballroom as well as Sandstone and Daycholah meeting rooms. Guests must be 21 or older to attend. Advance ticket purchase is recommended. Please call 800.444.2812 to purchase tickets. Evensong Spa Beer Services In conjunction with Heidel House Resort’s 4th annual Brew Fest, Evensong Spa has crafted new ways to enjoy Wisconsin’s most popular beverage during the month of March. Ancient Romans once used beer baths to sweat out toxins, exfoliate skin and infuse the body with vitamins. Today there are dedicated “beer spas” in Europe, but sadly only a handful of spas in the U.S. offer such services. The Evensong Spa team has taken it upon itself to diligently research this under-served industry and craft its own beer spa services! Throughout the month of March, these Evensong Spa beer services will be featured:
We recommend following this 20 minute treatment with your choice of steam room or waterfall whirlpool soak, both located in our relaxation room.
Sit back and enjoy a cold one (beer of your choice) during this 50 minute beer-infused pedicure.
For both beer-themed spa treatments, guests can choose from New Glarus Spotted Cow, Blacktop, Moon Man and Fat Squirrel.
For more information or to make a spa appointment, visit www.evensongspa.com or call 920.294.3347.
Guests must be 21 or older to take advantage of these Heidel House Resort & Spa events and services.
For event tickets and room reservations, please call 920.294.3344 or visit www.heidelhouse.com.
